Windwood Farm

Help, Hope, Healing. That is what goes on every day on our beautiful 110-acre residential campus in Awendaw. The natural beautyand surroundings of our 110-acre campus with its access to the Wando River, several ponds, nature trails, a wide variety of animals, fitness trail and obstacle course, along with our challenge course and an on-campus education center teamed up with highly skilled staff and best practice evidenced based therapeutic interventions add up to a nationally accredited treatment program that offers each child a chance to elevate himself beyond his wildest expectation.

On his way to becoming a productive member of our community, each child is given the opportunity to overcome past traumas. We offer a unique approach to the healing process; it is truly a lifeline for at-risk children. Therapies geared to increase problem solving, anger management, and frustration tolerance, increase the child's ability to achieve a successful completion of our program.

For anyone who questions whether or not miracles happen; I invite you to come visit us.
At Windwood Farm, miracles happen every day!

boysThe smiles on the faces of children who have overcome exposure to horrific living situations, extreme abuse and neglect, substance abuse, or physical cruelty, tell a compelling story. Our boys are living proof that lives can be changed, that character can be built, and that success lies at the feet of those who embrace the tools offered to them to move forward. Over the past 26 years, 450 boys have called Windwood Farm their home.

With over 17,000 cases of child abuse or neglect reported annually, South Carolina ranks 45th among other states in our ability to ensure child well-being.

• A child is reported abused or neglected in the U.S. every 10 seconds
• 1 in 5 children will be abused or neglected by the time they reach 18.
• 2 of 3 teen mothers were abused as children.
• 2 of 3 adults with substance abuse problems were abused as children.
• Children who are abused are twice as likely to be arrested for violent crime as an adult.

Although these statistics are mind-boggling, a brighter tomorrow for children and families in the Lowcountry is becoming a reality!Windwood Farm is at war with the devastating effects of child abuse and neglect, and we use every resource at our disposal to stand in the gap between heartbreak and hope. We've been doing this for 26 years, and we won't give up now.

For family members of children placed in our residential programs, we have also recently invited parents to spend the night on our campus. Our new "Parent Suites" offer comfortable arrangements that allow a parent to have additional quality time interacting with their child while experiencing life on the Farm! Families share in meals, participate in therapeutic interventions and can ride bikes, fish, and enjoy the outdoors. They truly get a bird's eye view of their child's everyday interactions with peers and staff too!

Through the ongoing support of organizations like The Sertoma Club of Charleston, several local churches, and caring individuals in our community; Windwood Farm is paving the way for children to revcover from abuse and neglect, and for families to recover from roadblocks that are preventing them from maintaining safe, secure, and loving homes.

With their support and a shared passion for our mission, The Sertoma Club of Charleston's charitable donations has given us the ability to help more children by maintaining best practice standards, to provide ongoing training and education to our staff, and to maintain our beautiful campus.

Through our expanding array of services, our services are now provided throughout the community and in our newest location- in our out-patient clinic at 900 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., Suite 110 in Mount Pleasant. We provide a continuum of services in an environment where children and families can be helped to develop healthier lives and relationships.

boys• Along with Medication Management, when needed, Individual, Family, and Group therapy is offered by independently licensed therapists. Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), for children ages 2-7, provides families with new skills to solve children's behavioral issues. TF-CBT offers treatment for children who have experienced past traumatic events.
• Behavior Modification and Rehabilitative Psycho-social Services are offered in many tri-county area locations, including the privacy of your home or in the schools your children attend.
• By promoting parental competencies and strong connections, our Parenting Education programs assists families to develop and maintain better child-parent relationships, improve attachment, and enhance overall family functioning.
• Through Family Support, solution focused sessions help families deal with chronic mental health challenges and emotional turmoil of a loved one.
• Kinship Navigator & Caregiver services work with extended family members of a struggling parent to set up a Family Plan for success. Relatives who accept the responsibility of caring for the children of kin, allows the child to grow up with relatives who can foster the child's sense of ethnic and cultural heritage. This program helps our community to achieve safety, well-being, and permanency for children who would otherwise be entering the state's custody. Want to find out what we're all about?
